Why choose Sonoma for a corporate retreat?

Sonoma County stretches from the Russian River’s redwood groves to the vineyards around Healdsburg, with more than 400 wineries in between. Teams can paddle the river in the morning, meet in a converted barn or vineyard pavilion and share a long dinner made with food grown nearby. Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) is about 20 minutes from most venues, and San Francisco (SFO) is about 90 minutes away.

As a remote team, it's important for us to create an intentional space for us to come together and connect as more than co-workers. We believe there's no better way to do that than in nature and Wilder Retreats helped us do just that.

We've worked with Wilder Retreats on over three retreats now and it's been the best experience ever. They have great locations in their pocket, work closely with you on budget and details, and are always a step ahead with planning. I don't know how we'd execute on our team offsites without them!

Wilder Retreats ran our firmwide offsite this year. It was clear we had a true partner in Wilder. From the earliest planning chats through the final goodbye for the airport, our Wilder Retreats team was responsive, organized, and upbeat, so much so that our own staff who worked with them to plan could simply enjoy the retreat instead of juggling logistics. The result was a relaxed, engaging few days where people could focus on connecting with colleagues and re‑energizing for the year ahead. We came away feeling both cared for and confident that we’d choose Wilder Retreats again without hesitation!

SONOMA CORPORATE RETREAT

Frequently asked questions

What makes Sonoma a good fit for a corporate retreat?

Sonoma gives teams a real change of pace without a long trip. Redwood forests, the Russian River and hundreds of small wineries sit within a short drive of each other, and the food is some of the best in California. It feels relaxed and unhurried, which makes it easier for people to slow down and talk.

Should we stay at Dawn Ranch, Farmhouse Inn or Montage Healdsburg?

It depends on your group. Dawn Ranch has 84 cabins and rooms on 22 acres of redwoods along the Russian River, with indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, a good fit for mid-size teams who want a relaxed, outdoorsy feel. Farmhouse Inn has 25 rooms and a Michelin-starred restaurant in Forestville, best for an executive team of about 20 that books the whole inn. Montage Healdsburg has 130 rooms on 258 acres and more than 6,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, so it suits the largest groups. We’ll recommend the best fit for your group size, goals and budget.

What is the best time of year for a retreat in Sonoma?

September and October bring harvest season, warm days and the best wine-country energy. Spring (April through June) is green and mild. Summer is warm inland and cooler near the coast. Winter is quieter and rainier, with lower rates.

How do we get to Sonoma?

Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is about 20 minutes from Healdsburg and Forestville and has direct flights from several West Coast cities. San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) are about 90 minutes away. Wilder coordinates group transfers from any of these airports.

What other experiences can Wilder organize in Sonoma?

Beyond the featured experiences, teams can bike through Dry Creek Valley, hike at Armstrong Redwoods, visit the coast at Bodega Bay, take a hot air balloon flight or tour a working farm. Wilder builds the itinerary around your team’s interests and goals.

Can we plan a retreat that isn’t centered on wine?

Yes. Many teams mix in redwood hikes, river paddling, cooking classes and farm visits, and we always include great non-alcoholic options. Wine is part of Sonoma, but it doesn’t have to be the focus.

Can Sonoma host groups of more than 100 people?

Yes. Montage Healdsburg has the most room, and larger groups can split lodging across nearby hotels in Healdsburg while meeting together. We’ll plan the room blocks and transfers so it feels like one retreat.

Can we hold meetings outdoors?

Yes. We use lawns, redwood groves and vineyard terraces for sessions when the weather allows, and time outside tends to spark better conversations than a windowless ballroom.

Are activities suitable for all fitness levels?

Yes. River paddles are on calm water, hikes range from flat forest walks to steeper climbs, and cooking classes and tastings need no experience. We plan every day so the whole team can join in.

What should we pack for a Sonoma retreat?

Bring layers, since mornings in the redwoods can be cool and foggy even when afternoons are warm. Add comfortable walking shoes and something a little nicer for dinner. We send every team a packing list before the trip.

What ROI can companies expect from a Wilder retreat in Sonoma?

Wilder handles every logistical detail, saving internal teams an average of 100+ planning hours. We build each itinerary around your business goals, so the sessions, activities and downtime all support what you want your team to leave with.
