Why choose Virginia for a corporate retreat

Virginia puts three very different retreats within a day’s drive of each other. In the Blue Ridge, a 12,000-acre mountain estate offers falconry, fly fishing and a private observatory. In the Alleghenies, a historic resort built around natural hot springs has hosted groups since before the Revolution. And in hunt country, less than an hour from Dulles, rolling horse farms and vineyards surround a five-star resort. Teams from Washington, Charlotte and the Northeast can be there in a short flight or drive.

As a remote team, it's important for us to create an intentional space for us to come together and connect as more than co-workers. We believe there's no better way to do that than in nature and Wilder Retreats helped us do just that.

We've worked with Wilder Retreats on over three retreats now and it's been the best experience ever. They have great locations in their pocket, work closely with you on budget and details, and are always a step ahead with planning. I don't know how we'd execute on our team offsites without them!

Wilder Retreats ran our firmwide offsite this year. It was clear we had a true partner in Wilder. From the earliest planning chats through the final goodbye for the airport, our Wilder Retreats team was responsive, organized, and upbeat, so much so that our own staff who worked with them to plan could simply enjoy the retreat instead of juggling logistics. The result was a relaxed, engaging few days where people could focus on connecting with colleagues and re‑energizing for the year ahead. We came away feeling both cared for and confident that we’d choose Wilder Retreats again without hesitation!

Virginia retreat questions

Frequently asked questions

What makes Virginia a good fit for a corporate retreat?

Virginia offers real variety within an easy trip from Washington, Charlotte and the Northeast. Teams can choose a remote mountain estate, a historic resort with its own hot springs or a luxury retreat in horse and wine country, each with strong meeting space and plenty to do outdoors.

Should we stay at Primland, The Omni Homestead or Salamander Middleburg?

It depends on your group and goals. Primland has 54 rooms and treehouses on 12,000 acres in the Blue Ridge, a strong fit for leadership teams of up to about 50 who want privacy and adventure. The Omni Homestead has 483 rooms, 76,000 square feet of meeting space and natural hot springs, best for the largest groups. Salamander Middleburg has 168 rooms on 340 acres about 30 minutes from Dulles, ideal for teams coming from Washington who want a five-star stay without a long drive. We’ll recommend the best fit for your group size, goals and budget.

What is the best time of year for a retreat in Virginia?

April through June and September through early November are the most comfortable, with fall color peaking in October. Summer is warm but cooler in the mountains at Primland and The Homestead. Winter works well for smaller groups, and The Homestead has its own ski area.

How do we get to Virginia?

For Salamander, fly into Washington Dulles (IAD), about 30 minutes away. For The Omni Homestead, fly into Roanoke (ROA), about 75 minutes away. For Primland, fly into Greensboro (GSO), about 90 minutes away. Groups from Washington often drive, and we handle all ground transfers.

Can we combine more than one venue?

Usually not on the same trip, since the venues are two to four hours apart. Most groups pick the one that fits their size and travel, and some come back to a different part of Virginia the following year.

What other experiences can Wilder organize in Virginia?

Beyond the featured experiences, teams can fly-fish mountain streams, shoot sporting clays, ride horses through hunt country, tour Virginia wineries, soak in The Homestead’s historic warm springs or play championship golf.

Can Virginia host groups of more than 100 people?

Yes. The Omni Homestead can host several hundred people, with a grand ballroom of more than 13,000 square feet. Salamander Middleburg also hosts large groups, with a 4,500-square-foot ballroom and extensive outdoor event space.

Can we hold meetings outdoors?

Yes. We use terraces, lawns and fire pits for sessions and breakouts in spring, summer and fall, with an indoor room held as a backup.

Are activities suitable for all fitness levels?

Yes. Falconry, wine tastings and stargazing need no experience. Hikes and paddleboarding are guided and paced for the group, with easier options available.

What should we pack for a Virginia retreat?

Bring layers, since mountain evenings are cool even in summer, plus comfortable walking shoes and a rain jacket. Add a warm jacket in fall and winter, and a swimsuit for the hot springs or spa.

How much does a Virginia corporate retreat cost?

Most retreats run $750 to $1,500 per person per day on average, depending on the venue, season, group size and experiences. The sample pricing above shows what three nights could cost at each venue, and we’ll build a custom proposal for your team.
